Ways to renew your passport

Kiosks

Applicants can use the self-service kiosks located in the Immigration Head Office in Wan Chai or Branch Offices dotted in 7 districts to renew their passports without prior appointment. If you do not have passport photos ready, you can have them taken at the passport kiosk with no additional charge.

Apply online

Applicants over the age of 17 can renew their Hong Kong SAR passport online from almost anywhere in the world via Hong Kong Immigration Department website or apps.

Apply by Post

Applicants can use the postal service to renew a passport. Simply mail the completed application Form ID 841 along with the required documents to the following address: Travel Documents and Nationality (Application) Section Immigration Department 4/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Don’t forget to pay the passport fees with a check or have the money transferred.

In person

Applicants can also apply in person in any of the Immigration offices during office hours. To shorten the queuing time, applicants should make an appointment booking in advance online or by phone (2598 0888). If you don’t, your appointment booking will be served on a first-come-first-served basis until the quota is full.

  • Size: 50 mm x 40 mm
  • Head size in frame: 32mm x 36mm 


When you take the photo, please do not wear head dress, and heavy make-up and overly dark or overly light-coloured clothing should also be avoided.

Passport Renewal - Processing Time

Upon application, it usually takes 5 days for Immigration Department to process your passport renewal application. It will usually take another 2-3 days to process if you do not apply in person. When your application is approved, the Immigration Department will let you know when and where to collect your passport.
