BEA Credit Card Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I qualify as a "New Credit Card Customer" for the welcome offer?

BEA welcome rewards are generally restricted to applicants who have not held any principal BEA credit card within the 6 months prior to the application submission date and approval date. Please note that holders of BEA Corporate Cards, Supplementary Cards, Co-branded Cards, or Selected Customers are usually excluded from this definition.

Which spending items are classified as "Ineligible Transactions" and excluded from earning welcome rewards or basic rebates?

In general, supplementary card transactions, cash advances, statement instalments, "Cash in Hand" amounts, balance transfers, purchasing and/or adding value to stored-value cards or e-wallets (such as reloading Alipay, PayMe, WeChat Pay, etc.), supermarket spending, government department transactions, bill payments and automatic transfers, finance charges, and annual fees are all classified as ineligible transactions.

What happens if I cancel my credit card shortly after receiving the welcome offer?

If a cardholder cancels the relevant BEA credit card within 12 months of card issuance, the bank reserves the right to directly debit an amount equal to the value of the welcome reward from the credit card account without prior notice.

What is the late charge if I forget to make a payment on time?

If you fail to pay the Minimum Payment Amount on or before the payment due date, BEA will levy a late payment charge. For each statement cycle, this fee is HK$350 / CNY350 or the Minimum Payment Amount, whichever is lower. Furthermore, failing to pay the minimum payment for 2 consecutive months will result in a higher default annualized percentage rate (APR) applied to the account.

Can the Renminbi and HKD accounts of the BEA UnionPay Dual Currency DIAMOND Credit Card automatically transfer funds to pay off each other?

No, they cannot. Cardholders must settle the outstanding balance of the HKD account in Hong Kong Dollars, and the outstanding balance of the Renminbi account in Renminbi. Balances between the individual accounts will not automatically offset each other, and any overpayment in the HKD account will not automatically be used to cover dues in the Renminbi account.

How is the transaction fee calculated for foreign currency spending at physical stores overseas or on foreign websites?

For every credit card transaction conducted in a non-HKD currency, BEA will levy a 1.95% foreign currency transaction fee if the transaction is processed via Visa, Mastercard, or JCB. If the transaction is processed via UnionPay, a 1% fee will be charged instead.
