Standard Chartered Smart Card Pros and Cons

Pros

With SCB Smart Card, cardholders can enjoy an attractive 8% cashback at HKTVmall (valid until 31st Dec, 2021) and 5% cashback at designated merchants including DON DON DONKI, 759 STORE, Watsons, Circle K, foodpanda, PARKnSHOP and its designated retail stores with no minimum spending requirement.

Also, you can enjoy a 3-month interest-free instalment, which can take a bit of pressure off your shoulders. What’s more, it offers no annual fee, foreign exchange fees or cash advance fees, making it an attractive credit card for everyday spending.

Cons

The massive 5% rebate only applies to selected merchants. For local spending at other merchants, the rebate is only 0.56%, which is pretty low compared to other cash back cards.

Standard Chartered Smart Card Monthly Instalment Key Features

With Standard Chartered Smart Card, you can enjoy spending and splitting your credit card bills with a 3-month interest-free instalment. For spending amounts that are ineligible to earn CashBack, the Bank will deduct HK$1 cashback for every HK$180 instalment amount applied.

Can students apply for Standard Chartered Smart Card?

No, as Standard Chartered Smart Card has a minimum annual salary requirement of HK$96,000.

SCB Smart Card vs SCB Simply Cash Card

Both Standard Chartered Smart Card and Standard Chartered Simply Cash Card have a low annual salary requirement of HK$96,000. In terms of cashback, Simply Cash Card is more attractive, offering 1.5% for all eligible local transactions and 2% on overseas spend whereas Smart Card only offers 0.56% for local spends.

However, if you are a frequent grocery shopper, you may find Smart Card a lot more attractive as it offers 8% cashback at HKTVmall (until 31 Dec 2021) and 5% cashback on spending at selected merchants including DON DON DONKI, foodpanda, Watsons, 759 STORE, Circle K, PARKnSHOP and its designated retail stores such as FUSION and TASTE.

SCB Smart Card vs WeWa UnionPay Card

For Standard Chartered Smart Card, the massive 5% cashback only applies to designated supermarket and convenience stores, which may be less attractive to students. The minimum salary requirement is also a hurdle for students to apply. If you are a student, you can consider applying for WeWa UnionPay Card, which offers an attractive cash rebate of up to 4% for spending in specific categories like “Travel”, “Cinema”, “Karaoke” and “Theme Park” with no annual income requirement.

SCB Smart Card vs Hang Seng MPower Card

Both Standard Chartered Smart Card and Hang Seng MPower Card offer 5% cashback on various spending categories. With SCB Smart Card, you can enjoy 5% cashback at designated supermarkets/convenience stores such as PARKnSHOP, DON DON DONKI, 759 STORE and Circle K with no minimum spending requirement. SCB Smart Card is more suitable for people who frequently do grocery shopping.

With Hang Seng MPower Card, you can enjoy 5% on mobile payment transactions in local dining, fashion and entertainment and all online and overseas transactions, which is more suitable for people who always dine out, shop online and travel.
