What is K-ETA?

You must pay attention to K-ETA if you are going to travel to Korea. Starting 1st September 2021, K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization) is mandatory for all foreigners entering Korea from places where visas are not required. K-ETA is an online electronic travel authorization that Hong Kong visitors need to obtain before traveling to South Korea. How to apply for K-ETA?

You can apply for your K-ETA at the official K-ETA website using your PC or mobile app. To apply for K-ETA, visitors are required to have a valid passport, e-mail address, and a credit or debit card to pay the K-ETA application fee. The fee is 10,000 KRW (approximately US$9-10). If you apply with your phone, you can take a photo of yourself for identification purposes. If you apply with your PC, instead of your mobile device, you will also need to upload a photo for identification.

Testing requirements

Previously, anyone entering South Korea, including children under the age of 5 and regardless of their nationality or length of stay, had to take a COVID test before departing within 24 hours. However, Hong Kong travelers are now exempt from this requirement and do not need to provide a negative pre-departure test certificate.

Quarantine requirements

There is no quarantine requirement for entry to South Korea. Visitors are not required to undergo quarantine upon arrival to South Korea.

Vaccination requirements

Visitors are not required to be fully vaccinated before traveling to South Korea. There are no special provisions for vaccinated individuals. Vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers should follow the same rules as stated above.
